Welcome to my blog. It varies how regular I write posts here. I sustained a 'Traumatic Acquired Brain Injury', and a six month coma from a 'road traffic accident' whilst cycling, in October 2006. I spent the following 4 years (22-26yrs old), in a combination of hospitals and rehabilitation homes. Now, I have been living independently in Surbiton, England since October 2010. This blog begun life in December 2010, as i realised that there are many people worldwide that i want to share experiences with. I know that, as a wheelchair user, I am obviously not as mobile as i wish, so, use the internet to connect to you. I enjoy letting my thoughts represent through type. I type honestly. As numerous readers, as well as email recipients, will understand, I find typing to be very therapeutic. Thank you :)

1/3 of Fish

I have forever enjoyed Italian football because of the tactical sense shown by various defences (beginning with early 90's AC Milan). I am an Arsenal fan, used to play myself as a defender, so i feel able to recognise quality in this position.
Last Sunday's clash of the top two, was magnificent!
One of the best 0-0s! Many may have predicted a festival of goal scoring, but Italians know more.
Quality football throughout. World superstars such as Mauro Icardi, and Marek Hamsik, were kept silent by several extreme performances from both teams.
Grazie mille Napoli et Inter Milan.

Urban Hymns 20th Anniversary (+1month)
I missed the 20th Anniversary of the brilliant, third, and most successful album of one of my favourite rock bands.

Many of you will know the album already, however my favourite song from that era of the band, was a 'B-side' of 'Bittersweet Symphony'...

On hearing that the strength of the British pound is growing at a slower rate than previously, is an alarm for some. I am no economist, but let us wake up to reality. The world balances precariously, as the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Whilst this may please some people now, the whole world MUST unite in order to successfully tackle the climate problem that we all face. Brexit ignorantly opposes this concept. I cry in utter disdain.
We cannot enhance a European unification of sustainability standards, as Britain will have no say. Therefore Britain must act as a guiding light. Progressive sustainability MUST be at the forefront of everything we do. If we are going to 'lead the way' independently, it must be the right way. If we want other countries to follow us, we must lead the correct way!

PB
I surprised myself last Monday. I attended the gym, as ever, and set another 'Personal Best', on the gym bike. A total surprise, as I had not trained specifically for it. I had been training less, but it seems that it was a higher enough intensity, to work! Now, in the 'off-season', I will have a rest but just 'keep the legs turning', minimally.

Leaves 🍁
Halted, temporarily, by a mass of leaves on the pavement, but i stopped, started, stopped, started, etc, and eventually made it to the supermarket!
Mildly irritating, however, I was able to recognise that it was Autumn in October! This made me so happy! I remembered that we used to experience four seasons in 365 days...

38degrees
After receiving an email containing the shocking fact stated below, I started my monthly donation, supporting this cause. Please take the survey linked, and then do as you see fit...

Millions of plastic bottles are used every day, and many end up littering the sea. The problem is so bad, that a third of fish in British waters now have plastic in their bellies.

i don’t want to make a big thing about it, but I have very wise followers on social media...
... useful contacts

‘It’s not what you know, it’s WHO you know’

I can make girls smile, but no-one finds a wheelchair attractive. Unfortunately, a wheelchair and me are partners, currently. It is a one-way relationship!

Buses in half-term
A recent note, made yesterday, made me realise how lucky I am that things have improved. I think that there was some 'family event' in Kingston, as Buses seemed full (unable to allow me to board), due to already carrying two prams. I remember how I used to get so annoyed if this were the case. There is a clear sign on board that 'buggies should make way for wheelchairs, if required'. Some drivers agree to play by the rules, others just ignore the TFL displays.
Ah well. C'est la vie.

Facing the Future - Moral Choices in Post-Truth Times: The Environment
Stuart Downward, Associate Professor, School of Natural and Built Environments at Kingston University, and Baroness Jenny Jones, Green Party and former London Assembly Deputy Leader

The talk, held at Kingston University, last night, was super. A couple of quotes from Jenny Jones...

‘If you don’t have a Green in the room, these problems aren’t discussed.’
Baroness Jones explains why it is so important to have at least one Green Party member in any political discussion.

The following quote, describes such a vital fact. I have long considered this concept, but it terrifies me that many people do not live by it, and they cannot accept it. Earth is a globe of a constant size. Once at a maximum, we cannot increase. We have ONE PLANET EARTH.

‘There is no such thing as constant growth.

We must respect it

Unnerving weather, indirectly led me to the following video (explained below).

Whilst searching for ‘End of the world as we know it’ by REM, i uncovered this video. Unrelated, but one of the coolest tunes ever! Josh Homme appears on this blog for the second week running, again on a ‘Later...With Jools’ clip.

wonderful news!
‘Ahem’, Donald?
If only Mr Trump could wake up, and view how much offence he causes to others, across the entire world. A simple warning for Donald, the more hate you provoke, the more enemies you get, the less happy you will be. You should witness the calamity that NF has caused Britain, through his lies for Brexit. It would be disastrous to play the citizens of America for fools, in the same manner! The whole globe watches with great anticipation.

24hrs which offer a surprise pattern of weather, seems to alarm so many people. It quite simply explains to us, that we take weather for granted. We often slate British weather, and the rest of the globe laughs at us as ‘Britain’ and ‘rain’ are associated together by many.
Elsewhere on the planet, more ‘extreme’ weathers are experienced. We must realise that we are all incredibly lucky. Up to now, these ‘extremes’ balance each other, and some of us recognise how sensationally fragile but supremely important, this balance is.
We need our climate. We must respect it.

Music.

Earlier in the week, the route for next year's Tour de France was announced. It could be seen as both a classic, yet a revolutionary route! I list a few key points below...
2018 TDF 7th July…

- no prologue
- early short Team-TimeTrial
- Stage finish, through cobbles in Roubaix
- Only 1 Individual-TimeTrial, penultimate day & short
- Mountain Classics including a short stage (65km long, 38km uphill)

The misery of delayed trains. I write this note whilst waiting for a train on a platform at Wimbledon station.

Yet again, this is annoying, and felt by many, but it gives me the chance to realise that this is ‘the real world’, and it makes me happy to recognise that ‘real world disruption’ like such, may seem like nothing in comparison to my past experiences. I have progressed through a 'protected-rehab life', and now experience the life, back in the 'real world'.

Saturday 14th October...

Friday 13th
Tomorrow is yet another Saturday 14th October. Eleven years since my accident, exactly! It was a  Saturday 14th October 2006. A day following Friday 13th gave me incredible luck. I would like to say that I've disregarded superstition since, but i cannot. Only now, recently, I have checked my calendar, and found that this is first time since 2006, that we've had a Saturday 14th October! Hmmm...
Eleven years since i rode my beloved Bianchi!...

Joshua Homme and Dean Fertita (QOTSA)

I believe that human souls live on forever. Not complete, altogether, or in a human form, obviously. Humanity has existed for such an incredibly long duration, essences of our character must have previously existed somehow, somewhere. These ‘essences’  are forever lived and developed. As long as humanity exists, our total sum of ‘essences’ must equate. As we destroy our world, we must develop our ‘essences’, maintaining a 'human balance'. Artists and fellow creatives can devote their entire lives towards as much creativity as seemingly possible. However essences can all be traced somehow and somewhere, far-back, through history. The only important, unique thing/'essence' left to be created, is from the power of nature. Are humans foolish enough to gamble against nature?

Have we not evolved enough to recognise our own stupidity?

Are we not intelligent enough to act wisely?

Our desire for more, continues to develop into greed for more. Such ignorance of us all, should make us ashamed of our actions. We know that these problems exist, but we ALL claim ignorance. Humanity cannot continue like this.

Now I return to 'own-up'. I admit that I am a 'regular' in one of the big, high-street cafes in Surbiton. I cannot name names here, but it is the best one out of the 'big 3'!
Anyway...
I only ever buy an Espresso with a glass of water. I often remain sitting by the counter as i have my water. I am able to observe patterns of other customers. I sit and watch as they pay three times as much as me, for their caffeinated-sugar-milk creation with extra cream and chocolate sprinkles! They grab their take-away polystyrene cup, a plastic lid and STRAW! Then they call it 'coffee'!
Please behave.
The sheer amount of ‘new coffee-drinks’ that the UK consume is shocking. Expensive!

Marissa Nadler uses ‘different’ sale!
I received an email recently, providing me with details of the new Marissa Nadler release. A fan, I have promoted her before on this blog
(first inclusion http://patrickgoodacre.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/drug-appreciation.html).

Her new release tries to sell an increased experience. Please have a look at the following link. Marissa is selling more.

#OneGreenMakesaDifference

A short list of notes, this week. This means I am relying on my ability to type afresh! hmmmm…

On this past Saturday, Kingston Green Party  hosted a showing of two great films, at Kingston University.
The first of which was an amazing insight into a problem that we may all know exists, but which we should admit to knowing very little. I am so happy with myself , as I know that I have always recycled plastics, when possible. We should all be able to feel the experience of how easy it has become, to recycle sustainably. It may seem to some, like it is a never-ending problem, but by acting sustainably, one helps us all continue. The first film was truly eye-opening. Available via YOUTUBE...
‘A Plastic Ocean’

Next year brings us the 'Local Elections 2018', and people should recognise the importance of different political voices in a discussion. The Kingston Green Party needs to have a voice!

One Green Makes a Difference

A quick story of 'me and the bike'...

World superstars, their characters are owners of a corner-shop on Stella Street (clip in above link), my IPod played me this super blues tune, from their recent album 'Blue and Lonesome'. Quality.
THE ROLLING STONES - Little Rain (Blue and Lonesome 10-12)

Why do i feel the need to compliment females?...
I find it easy. It is so wrong to have your attention stolen without explaining why. Providing appreciation should only be allowed to work positively.
Positivity must be shared, in a world containing far too much negativity. If you are feeling positive due to the appearance of another, this positivity must be shared back. This positivity may be expressed however you feel best. It will last forever. If positivity is felt and experienced, it deserves to be shared, on and on.

Too much of anything is bad. Apart from coffee!
Oh no! I admit, I think that I’m addicted!
4, 5, or 6 cups of coffee per day!

I have slipped from restricting myself to 3 (I was strict, but effective it seems)!
