Almost 13 years ago. Well, I awoke from my comatose state in April 2007 (six months on from October 2006).
My mind was not expectant, but prepared to learn what had happened to me. Unnerved that I knew that things ‘balance’. A surreal, life-threatening disaster, but I had forever wondered how a balance would be found, opposing the positives that i had gained from ‘cycling’. I used to cycle, loving it so much, yet it alarmed me that it seemed so good . Things will balance. How? Now I knew.
It may be argued by some close friends, that I have always had plenty of self-belief! I must say that although the recipient of a serious traumatic brain injury and physically disabled, my inner-strength was waiting, ready to be called upon. I knew that I had more than sufficient power, inside of me.
How to believe in yourself
- Self-review. Always be ready to call upon your own psyche. Be prepared to review yourself objectively (no need to be biased either way). Every action you do currently must be strong enough to withstand your objective review.
- Everything must be understood both objectively, and as an achievement (view the positive aspect). Every action has a multi-sided effect. There are both positive and negative aspects of everything.
- Recognise the positive effect. Make sure that you focus on the positive sides, when reviewing your actions. These will outweigh the opposite, negatives.
- Be proud! Recognise that YOU did them, no-one else will ever live your life. Similarly, or close to, maybe, but not identically. Everyone’s life path is unique, therefore one’s history is unique. Therefore every action will differ, as each action’s historical background varies.
- Repeat over and over. Everything that you have lived through, so far, is unique. Stop. Think about that. Realise the sheer wonder of life. Your life. No-one else. Just you! :)
- Be proud. No more, no less. Just be proud of everything that you do.
