Welcome to my blog. I post on this, roughly once a week (it does vary). I sustained a 'Traumatic Acquired Brain Injury', and a six month coma from a 'road traffic accident' whilst cycling, in October 2006. I spent the following 4 years (22-26yrs old), in a combination of hospitals and rehabilitation homes. Now, I have been living independently in Surbiton, England since October 2010. This blog begun life in December 2010, as i realised that there are many people worldwide that i want to share experiences with. I know that, as a wheelchair user, I am obviously not as mobile as i wish, so, use the internet to connect to you. I enjoy letting my thoughts represent through type. I type honestly. As numerous readers, as well as email recipients, will understand, I find typing to be very therapeutic. Thank you :)

I didn't see you...

dust

I open with some music, found recently by myself. Unfortunately, so recent, I have no background information to give you. I think I am very late! I move on...

When you look at something (consider anything), accept that it is equal to anything else. Like taking two photographs, zoom out infinitely, the same can be viewed. Any two items can, at some point, somehow, be viewed as equals. Never, ever claim that of something is wholly superior to another. Everything equals.

Earlier in the week, I had an experience in a big Kingston sandwich bar/cafe, which left me so exasperated, I focussed on funnelling my anger elsewhere.
I had to move slowly, carefully through a gap between a child's buggy, and a couple of unaware, seated people, having just entered myself. I was in the process of tackling the problem successfully, when a women barged past, colliding into everyone (but mainly me)!
Biatch
'I'm so sorry'
She pleaded, 'I didn't do it on purpose. I didn't see you.'
I don't know what offends me more - her lie, or her stupidity. I thought her behaviour was so rude, that her claim of ignorance fell on deaf ears. She didn't know but, this claim offended me more!

I then felt like being crucified, as I immediately was left to make the next note...

I then cry inside, watching her friend just dump all rubbish in the same bin. 'That bin'! :(
Fools.
I talk about 'that bin' last week. No more. Too much anger

Bus stop
'Are you ok there?'
Hmmm, it saddened me when I was waiting at a bus stop, and quite randomly, a young man asked me this question. OK, I did realise that I may have been feeling a bit 'touchy', but why ask me? I was not in tears, or trying to fix anything, but the only reason that I could deduce, was that i am in a wheelchair!
WHHHAAATTT?
Am I too touchy?...

... Hmm... I see younger people, who are 'on top of the world', and I worry for them. I feel so sad for them. I have been there, their only way is down.

I return home to Surbiton, and my smile returns! :)

It is so important that EVERYONE feels confident enough to spread the love. (click to enjoy!)

I do realise that I can be considered 'flirtatious' by some. Is it bad? Is it wrong to spread the love? If I come across a girl, who deserves it, and I am out alone, I cannot let the chance go. The 'chance' is not really a chance, but it is an opportunity to be truthfully positive. It is up to the recipient to choose whether to appreciate or not.

a flake?

Hello
My first note this week, brings with it great surprise.
US audience
I checked the web statistics earlier in the week, and was surprised to find that my audience has been predominantly from the USA. It surprises me (being English myself), but it pleases me greatly that I have proof of my blog being read worldwide!

Some creative writing...

An unfortunate accident has left me stranded. I survived, I am floating in the ocean. Ships sail by me, but I fail to board. I don't know where I will end up, but then no-one knows anything. Nothing is certain. I dream of a paradise, but I have a enough sense to  know that it is not real. I look, and realise that everyone around is living comfortably used to their life, other fish battling through whatever waves they meet. It is good to recognise that everyone has ups and downs, but I have always felt individual. No one is like me. I still have a need/desire for a companion, but I am floating alone currently, there is plenty that I can no longer do. I can do more and more, as time goes by. However, as time goes by, ships go by.

Do you want a straw in that, love?
Do you want a flake in that, love?
:) (click the smile)

Hehehe. I laugh at my memory of the incident! I live cafe-life, but was left giggling inside, when a young woman moved my table, attempting to make room for another woman with a pushchair. She moved it successfully, and pointed at my carrot juice bottle with a quizzical face. When she asked if I wanted 'a straw in that, love?'
Such an expression, in an identical accent, made me smile inside!

Is it too difficult?

Hmmm. This photo is taken in a big, popular cafe, in central Kingston. In some respects, I discount myself, as I am in a wheelchair and so often leave packaging rubbish on the table (You can call me lazy). However, I am shocked to watch hundreds or thousands of customers, just dump rubbish in one bin! I go over and investigate. Ok, there are two separate bins (plus one sink for liquids).Tin cans are separated from ‘everything else’. This is good, but it does mean that glass, food, plastics, paper and everything else get collected together. The cafe tries to claim high-ground, by claiming encouragement of recycling! However this encourages such laziness of customers, it worries me. It should not be too hard for customers to distinguish what they dispose of.
We must wake-up and realise how much energy we save if we were to distinguish what materials we recycle. Paper in a ‘paper’ bin, plastics in a ‘plastics’ bin etc...

I was listening to 6music (as ever), and was surprised to hear a new Damon Albarn song. This fact surprised me, as he had just released his latest album, last year(i think). But this song seemed a totally different style, reminiscent of his 'Blur days'. I listen afterwards, and his former band are credited. Good news!

Blur - New album ‘The Magic Whip’ out April 27

I discussed my amazement at sponsor less shirts, following the first leg of this Europa clash between Fiorentina and Roma. The tie was completed last night in. Rome's Olympic Stadium. A convincing 0-3 victory, by the Florentines was completed using the most-effective and super performance that I have seen this season. Tight draws between English clubs such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea, have definitely shown top teams performing at their peak, but such a convincing, effective, calculated destruction of the opposition, away from home, proved to me that they knew exactly what they were doing!

Need I say any more?

Hello, I hope you are all enjoying the first signs of 2015 sunshine!
I have been forced to call on a plumber, to resolve a kitchen fault/problem that has taken over a week to do so. I have experienced a variety of emotions, after negotiating their times of availability. I have often left my flat in the morning, feeling seriously stressed/irritated after phone calls, but then a content smile appears as the day develops! Life in 'the real world' calms me, as I hear of other, much bigger problems, I know there must somewhere be positives. It has become a regularity for me to realise that a smile is everlasting, and can be so positive for EVERYONE.
Try to always wear a 'content grin', but always maintain the ability to spread the love, with a 'special smile'!!

I am skilled at reversing out. Even when fuelled by espresso!
I made the above note, much earlier in the week, but I must admit that I have since had difficulties in exiting the premises! I know that perfect driving is necessary, but it is possible. Such a brilliant, little, independent, Italian cafe, deserves respect, and my 'problem solving determination'!

I have been down a lot recently. I need fate to play me a card. I balance thoughts with a couple of names/news items that have brought me great joy this week. Off the top of my head... Danny Welbeck and Jeremy Clarkson! :)
David Cameron has come and publicly supported Mr Clarkson. Need i say any more!!!! Farage has missed that chance!

Fiorentina v Roma Sponsorless shirts!
I managed to watch the above two football teams, face each other in the 'Europa' , in Florence (on a screen!). Italians always do things in style, I was astounded. Neither team had sponsors on their shirts. Ok, manufacture branding was included, but no 'shirt sponsors'. Barcelona are the only other big team that had previously taken this approach (before greed, and desire for their share of Middle-Eastern money). Such display of purity by both teams seemed beautiful. To be fair, I am not a regular viewer of this competition, I may seem uneducated. Tottenham fans will know more. Thursday is Spursday!

It is friday and i come back to find an email from Transport for London trying to tell me how good they are.

"Dear Mr Goodacre,

I am writing to let you know that as part of the wider investment programme to improve accessibility across the public transport network, 80 per cent of London’s bus stops are now fully accessible.

Making bus stops accessible includes ensuring they have a kerb high enough to meet the wheelchair ramp, and for the step into the bus to be at a reasonable height for boarding. It also includes removing any street clutter from where the bus doors open. At least 95 per cent of bus stops will be accessible by 2016. "

Call me cynical, but this is just buses. We wait for one year until 95% of bus stops are accessible (but only for particular buses)? This means that one in twenty bus stops are unusable for wheelchairs, by next year! Hmmm.

This is just London.

Helvetica wins by more than 8 seconds!!

The title of this week's post explains the font that has won the thrilling race to be used by me at work! Although heavily backed by myself, it has been chosen unanimously (almost), by everyone involved. I had chosen to use 'my font' for the previous two newsletters. A personal favourite, Century Gothic was used by myself, without question. It is similar, but different to Helvetica (slightly rounder, thinner). I love these Sans-Serif fonts. I slow down as I realise that I may be boring you all to tears! My excuse is that I have long had a passion for typography. Hmmm. Examples can be found within this blog...
  • my name - helvetica
  • blog name - century gothic
  • introduction - serif font
  • posts - helvetica

I enjoy finding new music. They are discoveries of mine, but not really, I do not claim anything. I just feel they deserve exposure!

July 1989 saw the mighty Tour de France's closest ever finish. Laurent Fignon was edged out by Greg Lemond, in the final day, time trial.
Laurent Fignon RIP

I understand Greg Lemond...
