do we really want more of the same?

Perfection cannot exist

Life as a design student tells you the exact opposite… You must continue improving your design, until perfect. There are always room for improvements.

One can aim for perfection

BUT truthfully ‘perfection’ only ever exists conceptually.

All professional cyclists need such immense psychological strength. I remember reading personal stories of a large number of heroes tackling  a vast range of problems.

A unique, possibly superior attitude is held by a mystical great. Tom Dumoulin was a rider who produced all of the correct physiological data. Major Tour success, World Titles, but something was missing…

… (this following section was found online, at www.cyclingnews.com)

“Why do you completely suffer through it? It’s not easy, because you have to find new ways of smashing yourself and find new places of pain, and why do you do that?” Dumoulin said that afternoon, recounting a conversation with Sunweb coach Brian Stephens.

“I think I just like the journey, and I think any rider likes that journey. Brian also said, ‘if your only ambition in your cycling career is to win the Tour de France, then what are you going to do if you win the Tour de France?’ Is that it, do you stop cycling? So somehow there is some sort of motivation outside the result, and that is everything that comes with it on the bike, like being free. I think that’s it.”

The problem for Dumoulin, perhaps, was that cycling was now no longer synonymous with freedom…

…he had already expressed unease at the adulation of crowds who had come out “to clap for a boy who can ride fast,” noting that nobody cheers when a doctor saves a life.

“For some people I’m sort of a hero and that’s weird,” Dumoulin said in 2019. “I didn’t want to be, so I struggled a bit with that, and with how my personal life got involved with my working-cycling life. Everything around riding a bike somehow distracted me a little bit from what I liked about cycling.”

So, I finally test positive!

I proudly state that I had one of my best physiotherapy sessions, on last Tuesday. Then, to bring me back down to earth, feeling slightly 'under-the-weather' I chose to give myself a ‘Lateral-Flow test’ on Saturday. It’s positive result was merely a confirmation of what I had feared. I have since been seriously limiting my excursions out doors. I go out once-a-day to sit and read by the riverside. I used to stay strong when I knew that everyone else was ‘locked-down’ too, but now the strain is getting to me. ‘Accessibility’ is always the number 1 issue for wheelchair users. It is wrong that something may be ‘open to everyone, apart from those in a wheelchair’!

...But now, the world is open to everyone, apart from those who have COVID (this is understandable, no complaints). So, scuppered, both, a wheelchair AND covid!

Sometimes I watch the current news stories regarding problems with the economy, and shake my head in utter despair.

Why, do we really want more of the same?

Why do the British people not recognise the massive failures of the Conservative governments, year after year? We may shake our heads in similar disdain, but those who vote for such an old political philosophy must wake-up and realise that there was only one Adolf Hitler. There was only one Margret Thatcher. Time for such jingoistic, nationalism has ended. We have to learn from past mistakes, and ensure that they happen NEVER AGAIN. This a new world, we all face new problems in this 21st century. Our country is suffering a massive financial crisis. For how many months (possibly years), have we known of this potential, and watched whilst the Tories have done NOTHING. Do not expect Sunak or Truss to be any different. Does anyone seriously trust or believe either?…

The UK Government has made an ad about the spiralling cost of living crisis, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative
